Hello!
So my name is Alyssa Clark. I'm eighteen years old and a sophomore English major with minors in film and women&gender studies. I'm from Arcade, New York and I'll be pretty happy if anybody has ever heard of it. I have two dogs named Ethel and Lucy and they definitely deserve to be mentioned.
My sign says "I need feminism because my mother shouldn't demand I learn how to cook just so I can get and keep a husband." There are plenty of reasons that I need feminism, but this particular matter is just the first that occurred to me today. This is an especially regular grievance I hear from my mom. I must learn how to cook, otherwise what would my future husband think? What would he possibly do? Apparently he wouldn't want to stay with me if I wasn't a very skilled cook. We could always order-out. Perhaps I don't want a husband. Perhaps I'm too afraid of commitment to even get married (truth). Perhaps it shouldn't exclusively be a responsibility of mine in a relationship to cook when it would make much more sense to share that burden. This probably seems a little petty but it's alright to start with small problems and work upwards! It's just slightly annoying being expected to cook just because I am a girl.
My dad lives in Delevan and I go to the Arcade Drive Ins all the time! Haha. So i do indeed know where you're from :)
