Genderbread Person
So I explained the genderbread person to my three roommates and their reactions were actually quite interesting. I walked them through the scales and how they could apply to me and other people. At first they all seemed quite ok with how you can scale your self with our identity. Where it took an interesting turn was when it came to expression. I live with 2 guys, Bobby and Jack and 1 girl whose dating Jack named Bri. Why it got interesting is that Bri wasn't happy with placing our expression on a scale and she pointed very interesting things on a scale a femininity and masculinity. Although it may be one fraction of the actual issue we all started discussing how we judge peoples expression based their demeanor. Namely that if a straight man and gay man could wear a very similar styles and clothing and the level of masculinity expressed varies based on the way they present themselves. Her main point and and her problem even with having two scales is the scale at all. They didn't like having scales at all because 1. they said just let people be themselves and 2. they didn't like labeling people. It was hard for her see how you could put someones clothing a scale from male to female or feminine it looks on a scale from a little feminine to really feminine. But other then that they were ok with it all and found an interesting to think about the many different ways we can label and express our selves.
