"Genderbread"
I explained and showed the diagram of the Genderbread person to a couple people. One of them said "It's cute. I like it." I asked for elaboration. They said they liked how the diagram breaks the different components of gender down, and it's easy to follow visually. They also noted that gender and sexuality are not the same thing (perhaps they had always thought they were interchangeable). Another person I explained the Genderbread person to another person found it to be humorous, interesting, and it made them giggle a little because a gingerbread was being used to represent a person. I think that because a gingerbread is made from dough, the dough can always be molded into different shapes (different people with different identities and characteristics). They also added that it was interesting to see a diagram that spoke the truth and referenced something more than just a "one or the other" type mentality that exists within society. Although I was hoping for a deeper reaction from those I talked to, I also have to remember that they have frames of reference that are different than my own. Therefore, this whole Genderbread concept may still be abstract and jarring to them. I think it's always interesting to get people's reactions and opinions because they are never exactly the same as yours.
