Intersectionality
This week's topic was an eye opener for me. What really captured my attention was having to do the index card. I was instantly overwhelmed with how many identities that I have, and how so many of them are interconnected. While reading the articles this week, I began to feel guilty knowing that I could get a job and my race wouldn't be an issue. My index card also showed me that I really have a lot more than I thought. I never realized how much I focus on how I feel oppressed. I always think about how being a female in the United States, and how we are fighting for equal pay. I didn't take into account all that we do have, and how there are women around the globe fighting for so many other issues. Another point that struck a chord with me was the point about being able to sleep at night knowing you would have a nice temperature in your room. The line was something close to that, but it made me realize that even coming from the middle class I do have a lot more than I thought. This topic not only made me realize what I have, but also helped in my self discovery.
