Feminist Selfie

The word selfie, which is just recently been added to the English dictionary, is a self portrait typically taken with a digital camera or smart phone. A selfie is suppose to a representation of how you view yourself or want others to view yourself. For my feminist selfie I decided to take a picture of me right before I went to bed. I did this because I wanted to show the real me. Not me with my hair done and make up on. Today women are expected to wear make up and doll them self up in order to be accepted. Giving the impression that we are not good enough as our real selves. This selfie is an act of feminism because I am standing up against that idea and saying I don't need makeup or my hair done in order to feel beautiful. This is also considered a feminist selfie purely by the fact that I was the one who took this picture. In the articles we read for class this week "The Selfie as a Feminist Act" and "Ways of Seeing" both discussed how women in the past were photographed by men for them to look at. And that they were an "object to be seen".
