Framing the Rape Victim
One chapter that really caught my eye in Mardorossian's book is chapter 4 on prison rape. You hear about rape in movies and TV shows but you rarely ever hear about it on the news. People just expect them to go hand in hand and it can be the victims fault because they're the ones that "got themselves in prison." In the book, Mardorossian points out that 1 in 20 prisoners are victims of sexual assault, and in bad prisons as many as 1 in 4 prisoners are victims of sexual assault. This is an epidemic that needs to be shown in the limelight and have attention drawn to it. No matter the situation that an individual is in, there is no excuse for them to be a victim of sexual assault. I hope that Mardorossian's book brought attention to other peoples eyes on this alarming statistic like it did to mine.
