Pascoe gender bullying
Pascoe's book is a prime example of school bullying and how not much is being done to allow a non binary culture. Schools are very much about enforcing the gender binary and also about supporting heteronormativity. Schools can mitigating bullying based on gender and/or sexual identity and expression in schools. Some strategies that have already been added to schools are GSAs or pride alliances. Many schools often have a safe space. Although these are in some schools not all have them so it is difficult for LGBTQ youth to have a safe community they feel secure in. Some of the things that schools could enforce are programs like they have anti-bullying or DARE, but for educating about queer youth. Additionally schools should have a gender studies course that is part of the core classes. If not a whole course on it perhaps a section of a class, like health or science, devoted to the education of this topic. Some other things that schools can do to stop bullying based on gender and/or sexual identity and expression in schools is by subliminally integrating it into children's minds by having supporting images, talking supportively about it, and enforcing supportive rules on anti bullying. Young minds are cognitively flexible so by enforcing and supporting non binary gender and/or any sexual identity and expression, kids will have adapted to this way of accepting thinking.
