Mansplained
An example that came to mind when learning about mansplaining in class and reading Rebecca Solnit's “Men Explain Things to Me”, was an incident that happened to me last year. Last year when I went to get a drink out of a drinking fountain in Fenton a male behind me decided to mansplain how to work the drinking fountain, a task I am obviously capable of. saying something like " you know if you hold down the button water will come out for you". This irritated me, because I'm sure he had known I've used a water fountain before, so why would he explain to me how to use it? I didn't make sense to me and it made me annoyed. Men shouldn't mainsplain, mansplaining leads women to think that they don't know what they are taking about or that they are stupid. Men should respect and realize that women are people too and that they have a brain. They do not always need to told how to do things, especially when they are already know how.
