"Mansplaining"
I've been thinking of instances of "mansplaining," and my Dad is what comes to mind. We don't have much of a relationship with each other, which i think stems from our lack of common interests. He likes sports bars and beer, I don't at all. I remember when I was 24 (so, three years ago), he was showing me how to use a spray bottle. It was as if he thought I had no idea how to use one, which I do (seriously!) He also gets on my case about anything that involves my car - Is the car running okay? How much did it cost to get "X" fixed? He is convinced that my mechanic will overcharge me. He also kicks my tires, which I find funny, yet disturbing. I think these situations are also very patriarchal, as my Dad always seems to dominate and have the last word. I don't usually argue with him because his fuse is much too short for that. On the plus side, he does seem to handle my same-sex relationship well - better than I thought he would.
