I think that Tina Fey's stance on Photoshopping is very interesting. I believe that Photoshop is a serious issue that is causing society to have unrealistic ideas of beauty. I agree that most people can tell when something is Photoshopped, but that tends to only happen when it's silly photos or completely out of the ordinary images, never pictures of women. No matter if we are looking at an image of a digitally retouched woman as a young girl or a grown woman, we become sad that our own bodies are not similarly perfect.
I personally think that like dessert, Photoshopping is okay in moderation. We all have those days when we don't feel we look our best, and these days tend to happen when we have special occasions that involve pictures. Using simple photo editing functions that hide small imperfections with filters can make a huge difference in someone's self-confidence. This reminded me of when Fey mentioned how the feminist magazine would Photoshop armpit stubble -- an edit that kept her body the way it was, just helped make her feel better on a day that she would have shaved anyway but did not have time. Where Photoshopping draws the line is when it alters a woman's body to unobtainable expectations.
