photoshopping

In Tina Fey's book Bossypants, the issue of photoshopping arises. Fey understands that photoshopping causes a lot of negative issues in our society but she argues that it will never go away and that we need to spend our energy on bigger problems. Women throughout history have always been looked at as objects and held to unreasonably high expectations. Photoshopping is just another way society makes people with differences feel inadequate and or subpar. I think body image is one of the biggest issues in our society and needs to be addressed at full force. I don't think we can use photoshopping in a less problematic fashion because it leads to so many life-threatening consequences and it causes people to feel the need to change the way we were born looking. At this point in time i don't believe the idea of "feminist photoshopping" can exist. Before feminist can use photoshopping as a form of empowerment we need to figure out how to solve self-esteem issues and increase body positivity in society. We need to encourage body differences and be proud of the way we look. It is ridiculous to hold women to a standard of perfection that can only be achieved with computer technology. If i actually pick apart the word "photoshopping" i see how ridiculous it is; shopping is a part of the word, it's like you're going shopping for a different body. In a perfect world photoshopping would not exist and we would be proud of the differences in body shape and physical appearance.
