Gender identity

The new term I've decided to use to describe my own personal gender is "pirate". Pirates are constantly exploring unchartered territories and are on a journey to find their perfect 'treasure'. Pirates embark on a journey that allows them to navigate through unknown lands and experience new and challenging obstacles that were not present in their lives at home. I feel like this word perfectly describes me because I still am exploring all of the different gender expressions, identities, and orientations. I am still unfamiliar with so many aspects of gender that I have to continue to learn and explore this unchartered territory and grow from the experiences and knowledge I pick up along the way. I also identify as a pirate because I'm steeling or borrowing ideas and labels from other "pirates" who have a better understanding and knowledge of gender studies. Pirates are sometimes isolated and stranded at certain points in their journey but typically continue to strive to find the "x" that marks the spot. I think this is very similar to exploring gender identities because many people feel hopeless, fearful, or alone while they try to figure out their identity or find their appropriate label. Unfortunately, I don't have a map that leads to the treasure so I still have to navigate and test out different identities until I find the one that feels like the right fit for myself.
